There is nothing wrong with your DVD player: the creative minds behind the 1995-2002 version of The Outer Limits offer you six volumes of imaginative science fiction culled from the series to entertain and astound you. Viewers should know that this boxed set does not compile the complete series, but rather it takes 36 episodes from the show's full run and groups them by theme; also, two of the six volumes have been previously released as single discs (Time Travel and Infinity and Sex and Science Fiction were released in '02),but Aliens Among Us, Mutation and Transformation, Fantastic Androids and Robots, and Death and Beyond are brand new (and are also available as single discs).But that shouldn't stop both first-time travelers to The Outer Limits and veteran explorers from picking up this set, because it contains some of the program's most intriguing episodes, including the Emmy- and Gemini-winning "A Stitch in Time" with Amanda Plummer; "I, Robot," a remake of an original Outer Limits episode, and starring Leonard Nimoy; "The Grell," with Star Trek: The Next Generation's Marina Sirtis; "Double Helix," with Ron Rifkin and Ryan Reynolds in an unorthodox exploration of genetics; and "Beyond the Veil," with Michael O'Keefe in a story about alien abduction. A good introduction to a great series!
While there seems to be alot of debate over the themed set versus the sets by season, there has been little said about the dvd's themselves. I own both the themed set and the first season set and was actually kind of disappointed in season one. Except for a couple of exceptions- Sandkings and The Voyage Home- all the really good episodes from season one wre already on the themed set. So if you are a diehard fan by all means you will want to purchase the sets by season. However, if you don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on all seven seasons (assuming they are ever all released) then I would recommned this "best of" themed set. All the six episodes per disc are above average quality. Afterlife, Relativity Theory, I Robot, The Hunt, New Breed, The Inheritors, Tribunal, Gettysburg,New Lease, and the Human Operators are all excellent episodes. The Sex and Science Fiction dvd had the weakest episodes, being more titilating then thought provoking. My only complaint with the themed set is the double sided discs. While I haven't had any technical problems with the discs, I find having to turn the disc over to watch all the episodes annoying. I also like to have artwork on the discs. If you like Science Fiction, you should enjoy the Outer Limits. This is a newer TV Series and it is just as good as keeping in line with the older Series Show. But not everyone likes the Outer Limits. As for me, I do enjoy the Series and I give it 5 Stars & 2 thumbs up.

Some Good Episodes mixed with some real duds
This is a six disk anthology set of the Outer Limits series that reloves around certain themes. As many reviewers have already stated I would definately recomend that you wait and save your money for the season disk sets instead of wasting your money on this. Out of the 36 episodes on this collection maybe 10-15 are of high quality, the rest seem to be put in as filler episodes just make this set look beefy.

Six episodes to each 'themed' dvd. There are only a few outstanding episodes. You will get bored watching same themed episode after episode.

Cop-chop issue
I think making theme chop-chop's is an unintelligent way of issuing a series. It must be the works of a marketing manager having no clue about quality.

I haven't seen the series but is very intrigued and want to buy it. But when I buy something I want to get the complete works. Not a minced leftover by some surely ignorant editor (annoying those with a different taste). Any series issue ought to start chronological and be complete. If the studio wants to serve the low quality market segment, then by all means chop it up - afterwards. Please have a little self-respect, dear friends at the studio !!:o)
