A Must Have For Anyone Who Teaches Wilde
This BBC-produced version is a bit dry and stale for students used to MTV-style filming and pacing. However, each production is very true to the original works. The biography of Wilde is very valuable for helping students understand how his life influenced his work. The most enjoyable production of The Importance of Being Earnest is the newish one staring Colin Firth and Rupert Everett. It is based more on the original 4 act version of the play. It is delightful, but the director took a bit too much artistic license by putting in some "funnies" that were anachronistic. I recommend using both versions. I PURCHASED THIS DVD SET AND HAVEN'T HAD THE CHANCE TO LISTEN TO IT TIL NOW. I HAVE ONLY WATCHED "THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY" AND I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE ACTING, THE QUALITY OF THE FILMING AND THE DVD ITSELF. I HOPE ALL THE OTHER PLAYS IN THE SERIES ARE AS GOOD. Surprising Productions with Actors You Will Appreciate
I was surprised to find Jeremy Brett in a couple performances in this collection. Anybody who appreciated his BBC SHERLOCK HOLMES series from the 1980's will enjoy his rare and impeccible performances in this collection of the Wilde plays.

The Oscar Wilde Collection
I originally ordered the collection to obtain LADY WINDERMERE'S FAN, a play written by Oscar Wilde, inspired by the life of Lillie Langtry, and offered to Lillie Langtry for the original stage production - which she refused for reasons of 'vanity'. The play is very well done. I was also interested in viewing THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY. I was only familiar with the Hollywood version of the film. This version, in my opinion, outshines the Hollywood version one thousand fold.
