Rent or borrow instead
I am expecting my first baby in 6 weeks and I have a ton of questions on baby care! Although ABC's of Newborn Baby Care is comprehensive in terms of the range of topics (from choosing a pediatrician to car seat safety), the time spent on each topic is very brief. You may find you'll have more questions in the end than you started with after watching this DVD. The script and acting are also kind of cheesy.

In comparison, Laugh and Learn About Newborn Baby Care was more engaging and entertaining to watch. However, it only covers Bathing, Diaper Change, Dressing, and Swaddling.

There are pros and cons to both DVDs. There are tips and techniques included in one that are not in the other. My suggestion is to rent or borrow instead. I got both at my local public library and I'm waiting for another DVD from Netflix, Bringing Baby Home: The Ultimate Baby Care DVD. Afterwhich, I'll decide which DVD I will purchase to keep as reference.ABC's of Newborn Baby Care

Not useful at all
Maybe if you've never held a baby or truly are clueless about ANYTHING involving baby care it'll be tolerable for you. But those who need that much help will need something that actually goes into detail. For instance, the nursing part of the program is so short and only talks about a few things and doesn't even show a baby nursing. They actually even go through the steps of picking up a baby! It's pretty irritating and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.ABC's of Newborn Baby Care

Covers the very basics, feels incomplete
This DVD's 40-minute program covers the very basics of newborn care. Please note that the content is on caring for a newborn; if your baby is already a few weeks old, you most likely won't need this as you won't be able to learn anything new.

The DVD is divided into over a dozen chapters. Each cheapter is very short, with a nurse (or is she a midwife?) demonstrating newborn care techniques, such as feeding, swadding, dressing, etc. She never explains in detail some of the intricacies in caring for a baby. For example, if a baby cries her heart out during diaper change, what should a parent do?

In the end, this title feels incomplete and unsatisfactory. The "bonus" chapter on baby gear is a complete joke, with the model quickly running through a list of things while pointing her right hand at each in the same way. Really annoying.

I would not recommend this video at all unless you are (like I was) completely clueless. Even then, you can find this at your local library or on Netflix.ABC's of Newborn Baby Care

The basics for a nervous new dad
We watched a couple dvds and this one was comprehensive yet simple and sweet. My husband found the other one to be a bit overwhelming. This DVD is for the GUYS. This was an easy visual guide for him. It obviously doesn't replace a book on the subject, but find me a husband whos reading a 300 page book. Of course I did. This guide reassured my husband to basic baby handeling and baby care. My husband is ready to burp, change diapers and give baths now. To me that sounds great. For you girls, check out the "essentials" list. It helps when you go to babies r us.ABC's of Newborn Baby Care

Not a First Choice
I purchased "ABC's of Newborn Baby Care" and another video called "Bringing Baby Home". The "ABC's" video uses a baby who is not a newborn. The umbilical cord is healed and the baby is at least three weeks old. The video does go over basic care of how to hold, change, dress a baby, bottle cleaning and baths, but skips over the details I would have found useful. "Bringing Baby Home" by the Liandrea Company is a much more complete video that uses actual newborns and parents (no actors)and covers a wider range of information. I do not recomment ABC's of Newborn Baby Care as anything but a suppliment to another video.ABC's of Newborn Baby Care
