Editorial Reviews and DVD Information about 9/11 - The Filmmakers' Commemorative Edition

Amazon.com
Originally broadcast on CBS in March 2002, 9/11 is an extraordinary record of that fateful day in New York City. This one-of-a-kind documentary was originally conceived as a portrait of 21-year-old Tony Benetatos, a firefighter trainee at Manhattan's Duane Street firehouse, located seven blocks from the World Trade Center. By the time filming was finished, brothers Jules and Gedeon Naudet had captured history in the making, including the only image of the first jetliner striking Tower 1, and the only footage from within the tower as it collapsed. This is not, however, a film about the murderous nightmare of terrorism. It's the ultimate rite-of-passage drama, more immediate and meaningful than any fiction film could be, with Benetatos and his supportive colleagues emerging as heroes of the first order. Sensitively narrated by codirector and fellow firefighter James Hanlon, 9/11 will endure forever as a tribute to those, living and dead, who witnessed hell on that sunny Tuesday morning. --Jeff Shannon

Powerful Film
The film follows two french brothers who set out to make a documentary of the life of a probationary fireman in New York, but the documentary took a disturbing turn on the morning of September 11th. After capturing one of 2 know scenes of the first plane hitting the towers, they rushed to the scene with the firefighters they were shadowing. They were there when the towers fell, through the fear of losing a loved one, but later reuniting, the desperate search for the survivors, and the early stages of the healing process. A incredibly powerful documentary that shouldn't be missed.9/11 - The Filmmakers' Commemorative Edition

The only video on 9/11 free of an agenda
On the first aniversary of 9/11, this documentary was shown on CBS, and I taped most of it on VHS, missed the first 20 minutes or so. So I was glad to get a complete edition.
The really unique thing about this is, the fact these two guys were making a simple doc about one thing, and by chance captured the entire events at the World Trade Center: that what happened that day unfolded before them and people like me, who lived less than a hundred miles away but might as well have been a thousand miles away, were made to see what happened to people who were in fact our friends, relatives. There has been so much said, and written since that day. About what happened, and how, and is that all true? And what led up to it...and so forth. But this is about the simple people who suffered that day, and how that happened. The extra interviews are also much worth watching. In total, really just incomparable with anything else about 9/11.9/11 - The Filmmakers' Commemorative Edition

Wonderful
This is the most moving and unbiased documentary on 9/11 I have ever seen and I think I have seen them all. I ordered 5 copies as gifts and every one else was just as impressed.9/11 - The Filmmakers' Commemorative Edition

Best First-Person Narrative
I've seen no better first-person narrative on the subject since this film's release. This was a must-have for me, and remains the most prized and displayed piece on the subject in my collection.9/11 - The Filmmakers' Commemorative Edition
